Wrinkles are an unavoidable part of aging, something that plagues every one of us at some point in our lives. For those trying to achieve or maintain a youthful appearance, wrinkles are the biggest obstacle. People spend their days looking for a lasting solution, which leads many to consider cosmetic surgery or non-surgical alternatives. Nowadays, cosmetic treatments are carefully designed to provide effective solutions for each individual wrinkle. Wrinkles on the forehead are not the same as wrinkles around the mouth, so they should be treated as different wrinkles. If you are looking for a reliable cosmetic treatment, a good place to start is determining the wrinkles that you possess to find the appropriate treatment options.
Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet are wrinkles that form on the outside of the eyes, and are often most noticeable when you are laughing. Many patients find that Botox® or other neuromodulators such as Xeomin® and Dysport® are effective for treating crow’s feet by relaxing the muscles that create them. Other suitable treatments include Ultherapy® to boost surface collagen or laser skin resurfacing and microneedling.
Nasolabial Folds or Smile Lines
Nasolabial folds appear as curved lines between the nose and the outer edges of the lips. These lines are most evident when you smile, which is why they are often referred to as smile lines. The most popular solutions for these wrinkles are dermal fillers that include hyaluronic acid. These products are effective because they plump the skin, filling in the deep lines that create the appearance of these wrinkles. However, these are usually the symptom of volume loss in other areas of the face which can be effectively and naturally treated with use of deeper, collagen stimulating injectables such as Radiesse® and Sculptra®.
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines are wrinkles that stretch from the outside of the mouth towards the chin. Like nasolabial folds, these wrinkles can be effectively treated with dermal fillers that are composed of hyaluronic acid. By increasing volume in the skin, the lines are filled in, reducing their appearance. These also are often a result of structural facial volume loss and may be better treated with Sculptra® or Radiesse® for structural volume replacement.
Forehead Wrinkles
Forehead wrinkles are often the first wrinkles to develop, so it makes sense that they are also some of the most commonly treated wrinkles. The first recommended treatment is Botox® or alternatives such as Xeomin® and Dysport® injectables, as these treatments will reduce the severity of the wrinkles and also prevent them from worsening. Additionally, patients can try rejuvenating skin care and treatments like laser resurfacing and microneedling.
