What is Botox® and How Does Botox® work?

Botox® is the brand name of a toxin produced by the baterium Clostridium botulinum.  There are other equivalent brands like Dysport® and Xeomin®.

HOW DOES BOTOX® WORK?

Botox interferes with signals from the nerves to the muscles, which then can’t contract.  That causes the wrinkles and frown lines to soften.

How Is a Botox Procedure Done?

Botox is injected with miniscule needles into the specific facial muscle with minor discomfort. It only takes a few minutes and does not require anesthesia.

When Will I See Results?

You will see results generally between 7 days to 2 weeks to take full effect.

How Long Will a Botox Injection Last?

It will generally last between three to six months.  However, since the muscle isn’t being used during this period, it actually starts to weaken and shrink.  Therefore, the lines and wrinkles as they re-appear will be less severe than before.

What Are The Side Effects of Botox?

Temporary bruising is the most common side effect.  Headaches can happen, but this is rare.  A small percentage may develop eyelid drooping.  This happens when the Botox moves around, so don’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection.

 

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET BOTOX

Since BOTOX is for preventing future wrinkles, once every 6 months is ideal.  More importantly, start slow!!!  Try one area where you see that future wrinkles develop.  Everyone’s face is unique and only you know your face the best.

THERE IS NO ONE MAGIC BULLET

Just remember that while BOTOX is great at preventing future wrinkles, you have to incorporate it with an holistic approach that includes:

• Staying out of the sun.
• Wearing sunscreen everyday that you go outside (Make it a daily habit like how you brush your teeth)
• Medical grade skin care
• Proper diet
• Getting enough sleep
• Learning to reduce stress by focusing on things you can control and not making things bigger than it really is.

The best kind of aesthetic procedure is when it looks so natural that no one even notices that you got a procedure done.
