What is the difference between Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®

What is the difference between Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® when they all originate from the same bacterium, clostridium botulinum. Each has been proven in clinical trials and in worldwide application.

WHY DOES EVERYONE RECOGNIZE BOTOX®?

All three are made by different pharmaceutical companies: Botox is made by Allergan, Dysport is made by Galderma, and Xeomin is made by Merz. However, it was Allergan that was first to market when it was approved by the FDA over ten years ago and that first mover advantage has given Botox the coveted brand recognition.

ARE THERE ANY DIFFERENCES?

While all three do basically the same thing, which is to temporarily paralyze targeted muscles, each person can react slightly different to each product. For example, Dysport tends to spread more than Botox and patients who have stopped responding well to Botox, will use it.

XEOMIN IS “PURE” VERSION

Botox and Dysport also contain an accessory protein to carry the botulinum toxin, which the human body can develop antibodies over time. However, Xeomin contains no accessory protein and thereby the risk of an allergic reaction or resistance is lower.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

While it varies from patient to patient, generally, Botox takes seven to ten days until the effects of the treatment are seen. Xeomin takes five to six days, while Dysport takes two to three days.

Since each person will react differently to each nueromodulator, over time, they will begin to favor which product works best for them. When initially deciding on which neurotoxin to use, consult with a highly experienced provider that offers all three. Additionally, Botox tends to be the most expensive option out of the three, but not necessarily produce the best results.
